Player Creation Screen
« on: April 23, 2015, 10:41:22 am »
Here is a functional player creation form that I got working. Still needs image and templates added but it has the essentials covered. Also, need to maybe organize it better and maybe use some kinda background image on the form.

Note the tan color and font. These will be use through out the client so let me know how they look. I figured out how to use a font file that doesn't need installing on the computer, so we can use whatever font we want and players don't need it installed. dafont.com is where I got it. It is called Alagard and is 8-bit like with a touch of fantasy and is still easily readable. A lot of the celtic/medieval ones I liked were hard to read, like in chat.

I like the style/shape much better than v5's.

The tan is bland. I'm no interface guru so I don't know what colors would work better, but I remember thinking in V5 as well that the various shades of brown used for the interfaces were just so drab.

The font style is neat but maybe it's a little TOOO uhh.. spiky? I dunno. If it could be toned down a little bit I think it would be better. I'm looking through those fonts now.

I think a darker colored interface would be easier on the eyes, although I haven't seen the sun in 2 weeks.

Maybe some dark blue/purple-ish colors with a lighter text color (maybe gold to give it a regal look) or is there a possibility for using a picture in the background? I am sure there are quite a few people who would like to try to make the picture.

Maybe it could be a forum activity? I am not saying offer any reward for it other than it being used in the game.

I agree spiky font, and bad color.  when I first saw it I was thinking it would look better in blue(Sacrifice already said that), though I was thinking a lighter blue and keeping the letters black.

edit: after reading the current task thread, do we really need templates?  I don't think anyone has ever/will ever use them.  I clicked 1 once and then changed a lot of stuff in there thinking it would be quicker, but it took just as long...

What about race being a choice? Maybe each race gets an attribute boost and a free trained skill.

- Human : +10 quickness, Farming
- Elf : +10 wisdom or charisma, Forestry
- Dwarf : +10 strength, mining
- Halfling : +10 dexterity, -10 life, lockpick, stealth
- Giant/Mongrim : +10 strength, +10 life, -10 intelligence, masonry
- Grayvyn : + 10 intelligence, ward magic skill
etc.

So each race gets a free +10 attribute and free skill. Above that, then you need to penalize them.

The colors look great now, and yes race sounds like a cool addition to the game.

The way you have it shown at the moment looks pretty good. Although what is Forestry?

Of course I think that there should be a neutral race also (no + or -) for those who don't want - something.

Maybe races could be like this (if you were looking at it from lore based stuff).
Starting with a general template of +10 Something -10 Something.

Human :+5 charisma +5 strength -10 wisdom, Farming(or maybe something else)

Elf :+5 wisdom +5 intelligence -10 strength, Forestry

Dwarf :+10 strength -5 charisma -5 dexterity, Mining

Halfling :+5 dexterity +5 quickness -5 strength -5 Life, stealth only

Giant/Mongrim :+10 strength +10 Life -10 Intelligence -5 Quickness, Masonry (this needed a little extra negative I feel)

Grayvyn: I think gravyn should be the neutral race. Since it is an original concept of yours.

Dunno if this is a lot to ask, but is it possible to put a toggle-able configure option somewhere to set a font by name? I have a personal dislike of somewhat-hard-to-read fonts (albion online was a huge offender of this).

Forestry is basically lumberjack or ability to grow and harvest trees.

Humans always seemed to be the neutral race I thought?
Change giant quickness to -10

I would code it to be able to adjust any attribute up or down and train up to 5 skills.

Would also have Harpian, Elk, orc, moo?, dino, viking?, gremlin, gorvor?, etc.

Yeah, I can easily code a font choice option plus I will code color choice too.

I'd love that, thanks.

I usually run with non-default dpi/larger fonts on a large monitor, so it tends to look really wonky if they're absolutely force-set on one font face and size.

Sounds great, would you like me to try to think of stats for them as well.

Sure you can come up with stats and any other races you can think of.

Human :+5 charisma +5 strength -10 wisdom, Farming(or maybe something else)

Elf :+5 wisdom +5 intelligence -10 strength, Maybe Ancient Text? If it is viable. I don't think elves are known to cut down forests.

Dwarf :+10 strength -5 charisma -5 dexterity, Mining

Halfling :+5 dexterity +5 quickness -5 strength -5 Life, stealth only

Giant/Mongrim :+10 strength +10 Life -10 Intelligence -10 Quickness, Masonry

Harpy: +5 quickness +5 dexterity -10 Charisma, Fishing?

Orc: +10 str +10 Stamina -10 Mana  -10 wisdom, Axe(or forestry if weapon skills are a no-no)

Dino: +10 quickness -5 Intelligence -5 Wisdom, Specced Run.

Lich: +10 Wisdom +10 Intelligence -10 Strength -5 quickness -5 life, Black Magic

(will add more to this post when I can think of lore friendly non-op race stat variations)

I don't like the idea of player races...if you add race choices then you'd have to add different reactions from npcs to each race choice.  orcs and dwarves don't get along, so a dwarf npc wouldn't want to buy/sell to an orc player.  if you have 1 of those 2 races as the main npc in a town then it makes it impossible for some players to get started.

If you added races to RPGWO, more would be required to make them interesting.

Perhaps communities can build siege's targeted at other communities? They would have to be very costly to send, and also have a benefit to sending. Perhaps they steal resources and kill traders for a period of time to encourage players to trade else-ware?

I am not a huge fan of races, and the more you add initially, the less appealing it will be. There are huge balancing issues once additional bonus's are added and their effects require extensive testing.

I agree the neutral and most powerful race (through numbers not stats) in RPGWO should be the Grayvyn.

And to start maybe just add a couple additional races, from the list below.

Harpian, Elk, Moo, Dino, Viking, Gorvor

Probably Elk, Dino, or Viking. Keep RPGWO special and different, using the default races everyone uses in games gets you to the same place.

View distance might be a function of race, now that would be a unique and interesting change.

Giants might get enormous strength bonus's, and be limited to 8 view distance.

Whereas a Harp might have a 20 view distance and considerably diminished strength.

Just a thought.

base on race you could have different starting towns, maybe set up a conquest thing where players based on their race earns conquest points for their town based on kills and what ever town has highest kills per vmonth get some sort of perk. like idk maybe warping to sectors or maybe certain npcs show up based on their town
winning that gives them something to encourage teaming up to kill faster.
