I haven't added coal yet. You can use any wood branch/log to load the furnace.

I just tried it again, apple wood logs, apple wood branches won't work.  only thorn branches...and maybe some other type that doesn't grow in my area ::) but atleast I got something in there

OK, yeah, I see. Fixed it for next update so apple wood works.
Needed:

Catagory=Wood Fuel

for the apple branch and log.

I use the Catagory stuff a lot. It saves tons of time doing usage coding.
