V5 Screen Layout
« on: September 03, 2013, 02:51:47 pm »
Discovered that the full screen mode doesn't change the resolution and isn't a real full screen mode. It just maximizes and removes the window border.

So, I am rethinking the dynamic layout and maybe make it static and windowed only plus fixed map view/sight range.
Right now, the sight range is dynamic. Can be easily adjusted server side for things like blind or better sight range, etc., but comes at a cost of more net traffic and lag.
Plus the circle shape of the viewable map, costs a lot in net traffic. If it was square like V1/V2 then I can optimize it well and reduce lag a lot, like 80%.

1280 X 720 would give 40 x 22 map view and would have good ratio for phones and tablets. Or 22 x 22 map view and the rest for static display like carry, stats, spells, etc.

Any suggestions?

22*22 sounds best to me...makes no sense to see farther in 1 direction than you can in another.  that also means you can use 1 side of the screen for chat and the other for inventory/info boxes while the game is in the middle(or even let players move the 3 around the way they want, ie game on 1 side chat in the middle and inventory stuff on the other side)
why does Fox keep cancelling good shows?

Greatest's idea seems more ideal for smooth play. Seeing farther in one direction then the others would be awkward, although keeping it that size then making chat bars/item boxes/etc in the extra space would be a good idea.

Hmm, well, I couldn't wait, heh, and coded it for 1280x800, using the full area for displaying the map, just how it has been. Haven't updated yet. It is all nicely optimized and cleaned up, for the most part anyways. So, it may fix some lag issues. Will need to change the launcher/updater and remove all the resolution choices.

Not sure about dividing up the screen though, like V1/V2. I like the big view and would be better for phones I think. Still need to test on my phone. I think it might be all too small to tap on anything though. My tablet looks and works good though.

Oh, so the new change I did, but not updated yet, shows 40x25 map space.

What kind of tablet do you have that it is working on? I bought the new 2nd gen nexus 7 recently and I would love to try it out on it.

I have a Nexus 10 but haven't made an APK file for it yet. I been using a remote interpreter. I will try and make one soon and post it.
