@Zach your house looks like its falling over to the left...

theres nothing really wrong with the way the trees look in the single player thingy.  shadows would be nice, but who would ever actually look at them?  visually its a great addition to the game, functionally I can see it causing some lag...
why does Fox keep cancelling good shows?

I honestly think shadows are HUGE. A game without any lighting effects is very dull and flat. Lighting effects add depth and help to immerse you into the game.

And.. LAG? Really? We're talking about a 2D game here. If at any point you're worried about having shadows on a 2D game, maybe it's time to upgrade from that computer you bought in '85.

If this is to be a 2D game, we should be able to push the limits of 2D. That's the great thing about it. Using an old style, but making it look GOOODDD
Shoop!

hes not talking about static shadows, he wants shadows that move along the ground as the day passes...that adds more processes to the server, not a person's pc, and will cause lag.

I agree lighting effects are big in a game.  if you didn't have dark corners you would kill alot of suspense in some games.  RPGWO already has a lighting effects to a degree, but who ever looks at a shadow?

Shadows will be generated 100% client side. The only process the server will need to do is syncing time with the client.

then my argument is partially withdrawn :P

I think static shadows would be the best way to do it if you're going to add shadows, but I still don't see a reason for them.
