What to work on next? FB RPGWO
« on: November 02, 2010, 02:17:11 pm »
Looking for feedback/ideas on what to work next for the Facebook App.
If you haven't checked it out already we have a demo at http://www.rpgwo.com/testpage.html requires silverlight to be installed.

Houses explained a little bit more:
In RPGWO V1/V2"houses" were just walled off areas that were surfaced. Not really houses since they were exposed to outside, no roof.
Real looking houses, that when you go inside it warps you to a small floating map. You can't see out windows though. Maybe players like it the old way better?
Attached an example

Could you make it work so you don't have to download the thing that it uses?
Oldish player, not much else you need to know. Why are you even reading this, you should stop.. Please stop. Why are you not stopping?

It's the same as flash plugin. You have to install silverlight to make it work, just like you have to install flash and java to make them work.

The old system of housing was all about showing off your awesome stuff. Which was nice. But it also meant the map became horribly cluttered and difficult to maneuver. I do like the idea of a default house which warps you to another map which you can customise the interior of. You can then invite people into said house etc to show it off. I guess the only problem then is that you still need to have customisable land for setting up farming etc though... I also like the idea of an "architect skill" which requires some kind of intelligence based drawing skill, whereby someone draws up plans for houses (25 skill means they have a 10x10 area to design on, 50 skill means 15x15... etc). Architects then sell the plan to someone who wants to build a house. Once you have the plan, a builder can then "Place" it somewhere and start building.

Not really public yet we are just testing in the browser at the moment. Will be mostly the same except on Facebook there will be little extra integration like wall posts, invites etc.

If houses are on a different map, we won't be able to set explosives outside their walls to kill people.  :'(

WHY CAN'T I VOTE?

Honestly I think the next thing you should work on is the player andplayer animations. Seriously the stupid isometric guy is annoying.

Also leave houses the old way. Limiting the outside of someone's house to some ugly looking cabin completely ruins the ability to show off your home and the 100% creativity you have when it comes to planning it all out. I don't want some stupid looking isometric house in the middle of my 2 or 3 or 4 claimed plots and the rest a giant empty space for farm land or something. It just doesn't make sense.

The roof was clearly implied by the fact that world fog exists, but ok, I get your point of view too I guess.

I like the "old" RPGWO, normal RPGWO.

This is just gonna look like another copy of Runescape.

New way looks better so you don't have a cluster of houses.

As for an idea for a new house system try something like Animal Cross did. In Animal Cross your house first starts out as a small, cruddy shack, but once you start to build up money you can expand the house giving you more space and add a basement and upper floor. You can also customize it further by putting up new wallpaper/floors and furnishings.

Also for another idea, try to make quests more advanced than what they were in the original game.

And if it hasn't been done already.... enable right clicking.

I think the new way would be good if there are various types of houses. Also, the roofs of the houses shouldn't obstruct the view like they do in a lot of games. I guess making the house transparent when there is a player/enemy being obstructed by it would work.

The old way was too cluttered, although people's land is usually no diferent.

Next, I think you should work on more enemies and item drops.

Hey what's the point of having a house if you can't spruce it up?

I really like the direction your housing idea is taking. I have been trying to play on the test page, but it randomly boots me without warning and I can't figure out why. Lately, it's only been lasting a couple of minutes before booting me. I use Google Chrome.. Could that be the problem?

It's been fine for me. Could be a local network issue or an isolated silverlight issue.
