RPGWO - Artists/Designers 2d Isometric Facebook
« on: April 13, 2010, 07:30:15 pm »
We are looking for artists/designers to develop 2d isometric artwork for our port of RPGWO to Facebook. This is an exciting chance to be part of a major project early on.

Here is a link of with current RPGWO artwork/along with sample images/screenshots of the new view.
Read the readme for more details
http://www.rpgwo.net/art.zip

Also for players very very early silverlight client test. Have some work do with some resolutions but connects to server, creates, player etc.

I feel that if they can manage to keep the gameplay pretty much the same, I think it would be a refreshing change of pace to play in an isometric view.

Seeing buildings in a whole new perspective would be interesting.

We will see how it goes. Hopefully it will bring more interest in the game/bigger audience. If the game can be run in the browser/run on social networks. Like runescape which i thought sucked compared to rpgwo.

Glad to know its going to be on facebook! It is one of the funnest games i've played.. isometric looks a bit weird at the moment with the items still flat. but looking forward to it haha. Still think the normal 2d version is cool enough though.. but wish there was still a steeltide kind of server.. the latest servers haven't been as fun lately.. or maybe i just don't like the new art..

I agree with mr random hoxyho. I think you should stick to the regular 2d view and see how people like that. I can't see the isometric being any better. Might make things more confusing.

We will see based on feedback. It isn't that much work to switch the engine around it has been done with RPGWO before in the past.

Really depends on the graphics that we get probably going to be hiring on 2to3 people full time to work on the graphic side.

This looks sweet. Hopefully the game gets revived. Out of curiosity how many people do you estimate the server will be able to hold?

Good luck with this, if you succeed I'll probably play a bit and tell my friends to try it out.

Doesn't that kinda go against common sense?
I mean, any creator of something wants his creation to become popular. It may open new doors.

I got a question though, why make it isometric and not leave it as it is?
Isometric games kinda suck. It would be easier and probably way better.

Isometric games kinda suck. It would be easier and probably way better.

The problem with leaving it public would be the large influx of players connecting from around the world if it did become public. With a server cap of 100, it'd be easily reached. Players from the original game would be incapable of joining. And with all the connections the server would probably lag/crash constantly. Server wipes were required yearly on the original server, imagine how bad it would be if this game got that popular.

I find that the game could use a graphics update, but if it causes too much hassle I'd be fine with playing with the 2D view. Isometric might cause some problems. Like if you were to build a house, half the walls would need to be see through otherwise it'd hide players and items making them difficult to click. But if there's ways around it, an 2.5D perspective would be awesome.
