Announcements / RPGWO V2 Newb World Planned
« on: August 07, 2008, 05:25:04 pm »
Stop worrying about UT and start worrying about how in the world I am gonna get a story line going!!!
I was thnking of using my RPG Party Story, which no one ever saw, in Horizon. One problem is no one
wants their land burned. Except maybe UT, heh.

I will be running it and UT's role is pretty much an observer with no admin authority. He will still have @@@ and come and go as he pleases but he is to not interfere. He really won't have time since he is redoing his INI files as well and running his own world(s).

And Chaos veterans don't count, heh.

Announcements / RPGWO V2 Newb World Planned
« on: August 07, 2008, 01:28:04 pm »
I announced this in the What's New but i'll post it here for those that don't runt he client but still hang out here....

Version 2.11 (08/06/08)
· I have been quiet lately because I have been busy working hard on V2. So here is what's going on and my general plan...
   · After a month of multi-map testing, I decided it was time to redo the .ini files (content) for my fantasy worlds. Tons of work and re-work but I finally got it done enough to open a new world. 2 of the major things I re-worked was I added ore weapons and I changed how blacksmith works. Blacksmith is like jewelry making now with smelting ores and using molds. You'll see when it comes out soon.
   · I am now in the process of resizing the internal structures, adding more space and expanding fields like player name from size 20 to 50, carry items from 50 to 100, etc. I should have this wrapped up within the week.
   · Then I am going to open up a test world in which I will need 5-10 veteran players to test all these changes out. A veteran is a player who has hit at least level 40 and has played (off and on) for several years. The test world will be restricted access so you will have to email me when it shows up on the server list for me to consider you and grant access. I'll probably give @@ at that time and give other incentives to find bugs. Incentives like special items, perks, land, etc when the real world opens. The test world will only be open for a few weeks and will be wiped. Also, Chaos will have to be closed since it would have data incompatibilities.
   · When I am satisfied the test world has dealt with all the bugs, then I will open a new world to all players. It will replace Asylum and be the new "Newb Friendly" world that I will run. I am shooting for the glory days of Steeltide and plan to build and code like the good ol' days. Actually, that is all I have been doing lately!!!
   · Chaos will probably remain closed and probably won't come back until X-mas time. It would be fully wiped. Maybe it would come back sooner if players requested it but I doubt it.
· So that is what is planned and going on. I know a lot of you have been emailing me and asking for a new world and better admin involvement, so just hang in there.

RPGWO 2 / Screenshots?
« on: March 12, 2008, 11:32:07 pm »
Well, I been working on it since what... November 2007? So that is 4 months now. Pretty good.
I had one major change to it, Isometric, that didn't work out. I am glad I did it so I know it isn't right for RPGWO but it cost 2 months of work.
Other wise mostly minor changes with a few medium changes. I am gearing up for another major change but am doing some minor stuff first
just so I feel like something is getting done and I am moving forward.
As always, I'll let you know.

Oh and if you want screen shots, just go play CHaos world. It is running V2.

RPGWO 2 / Lighting...
« on: March 11, 2008, 11:57:27 am »
It would require either DirectX doing it in realtime or drawing each image with darker variations.
The variations could be done during play time when idle maybe, not sure.
But basically, you want alpha blending. I have a directX DLL that can do it but then we will have
compatibility issues and some people won't be able to get it to work. Like if RPGParty gave you trouble
then you would be in trouble with RPGWO2-DX.

I'll put it on my list and think about it though.

RPGWO 2 / Addons
« on: February 21, 2008, 06:53:51 pm »
I like the journal idea and I wrote that down but the whole add-on idea is weird.
I can see adding a feature to the hotkeys that spawns programs or a URL, if you really want.

RPGWO 2 / Mission : Apocalypse
« on: December 21, 2007, 05:37:59 pm »
OK, I did a content update. Got some monsters and props and some road surfaces.
I think all I need is some warping stairs and some buildings. Which I am working on now.

So, this is what I think I need. Building floors. 20x20, floors of buildings. Although I am
not sure now I need help since I want it to be a secret where stuff is and all.

I need to think about it.

RPGWO 2 / Mission : Apocalypse
« on: December 18, 2007, 03:24:24 pm »
Story:
You wake up in your apartment one morning and find out the city is overrun with zombies and mutants!

Objective:
You must now make it out of the city alive and un-infected.

Features:
- 400x400 map
- using 200x400 (half) for above ground city
- using the lower part for sewers
- using the other 200x400 part for building floors similiar to how Dungeon world warped you when you stepped on stairs, simulating levels/floors

Obstacles:
- people and animals that have become zombies or mutated
- city type maze
- cleaning squads sent to "purge" anything that moves

etc

So, I am not giving up on V2, this is using V2 and adding features that support it. Besides, we are due for a new Mission.

I need... what ever ideas, maps, art work you wanna donate... thanks.

RPGWO 2 / Administration
« on: December 15, 2007, 01:17:20 am »
I think the problem is a human nature thing. The types of personalities that play this and other games like this are flighty and get bored and jump around. I have a hard time sitting still and come and go. It drives my wife nuts, heh.
For me I learned that as long as I am challenged then I "tend" to stick around.

But really, we all get bored with something at some point so there is no solution except maybe rotate the admins and promote quickly. That has risks though. I must have gone through some 50+ admins with @ or higher.

Me power hungry? No way, you don't even know me if you think that.

RPGWO 2 / Bountys
« on: December 15, 2007, 01:04:36 am »
Jordon but you would then have vitae plus the bounty, with bitch code, would free the bitch which was the first issue raised.
But yeah, it can be abused. Perhaps a bounty kill also sends the player to a jail and to get out they have to pay the bounty amount?
Just thinking out loud.

This also has implications with outlaws. Say a player becomes an outlaw by stealing or killing NPCs, etc. then the system puts a bounty
on the player.

I already have this on my list, thanks.

RPGWO 2 / What about the XP system?

Tweaks to the skill system. That is the thread we are on. Focus.

RPGWO 2 / What about the XP system?
« on: December 10, 2007, 05:03:59 pm »
Um, no. Jord's ideas are not good and forces people to play melee for the first 6 levels? But he has given me somethings to think about.

Black magic can do +200 and +300 damage in one hit so it isn't too expensive to charge 10 skill points.
Not to mention the Area of Effect spells I plan plus long range and short (blast) range spells.

RPG Party had a neat system where you get points to spel on attributes when you gain a level and regular XP was only spent on skills.
But I am not sure I really wanna deviate too far from the classic rules. I am looking for tweaks, not overhauls, ya know.

RPGWO 2 / Isometric Graphics?
« on: December 07, 2007, 01:23:07 pm »
The grid lines would be a toggle to turn on and off.

The movement controls would be no different than now.

The current perspective is a mix-match of top down and straight on and 45 degree, heh. It always drove me nuts but was easy to work with.
Elevation was always hard to see. Iso would fix that. I would also have varying slopes and the climb skill would make more sense with steep slopes
plus not to mention cliffs.

I looked at Tibia and their perspective is annoying with the slant. I never liked that much.

RPGWO 2 / What about the XP system?
« on: December 06, 2007, 10:21:50 pm »
Um, I am pretty sure, Muffin Man, that I said more challenging... not easier.
What 32k limit??

Grinch, some monsters do attack together. But I don't think that would make it harder.
