RPGWO 2 / Skills Fixt
« on: September 24, 2008, 10:16:41 pm »
Make me admin, I'll log on once a day to make sure noobs stay in line.

Anyway, the different skill set may be nice, but I still disagree completely with that drastic of a change.   You say the game's too easy or too plain/boring and broken or what not, then change attack skills to /4, not /3 or whichever.  The game needs retuning NOT reworking.

I disagree also with the changing of X + Y + Z as dex/str/quick/int/wis for the skills.  Those are all just fine and shouldn't be changed.  Again, change the Z [(X + Y) / Z] to increase difficulty.

Anyway, is this server PK forced?  I think a good name for the server would be "Survivor" or "Survival" etc.  This, regardless of what changes would/should be made, would be a true test for survival and such.

I've always thought though, that you should have to pick a "class" like any other decent sized MMORPG to dictate what you can do/choose.  I don't know the coding required or if possible with RPGWOs coding base, but an idea that could help out Jord's plan.

Trader - ability to train trade skills only.  $200K in-game gold to add a second class.
Warrior - ability to train one (two?) melee attack skills.  $250K in-game gold to add a second class.
Ranger - ability to train one (two?) missle attack skills.  $200K in-game gold to add a second class.
Mage - ability to train all magics.  $250K in-game gold to add a second class.

Something like that would get the community involved heavily.  It would ALSO fix the problem that many have with red magic boosts, pot using and/or jewel making.  If there's certain player(s) dedicated to each, the use becomes less and less (and moreso with boosting than jewel/pots as they can be mass produced) to balance out the complaints.

I don't know, I'm just spouting off.

Still a good idea.

Looking at the same map and same formation for years would get boring and plain.  Try and make it different.

I think, in a sense he wants the land to change/shift over time instead of the same map.

I suppose it would be possible just by simple admin commands of random meteor's acting as earthquakes, then come in and /level or /wateradd or what have you near/around the meteors/etc.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, just once or twice a month.

Tilur's got the best and only reasonable idea in this thread.

Jord, you're right, things need to be changed.  Just by changing a few (X+Y) / Z isn't going to change anything though.  I agree that traders need to be implemented more, and no I'm not giving input because I haven't sat down and thought about a good way.  This is a start and a step in the right direction, but doing a drastic change like this would be silly.

Defenses shouldn't be "evadable" just because you have a higher number than the other.  Let damage be done, but dependent on your armor and level, not just level (in a sense, you could wear leather armor if you wanted PvP if you know you have higher defense) for defenses.

Some general rundown ideas.

x<25 defense points than attack points = 10% reduction/resistance
50>x>25 defense points than attack points = 20% reduction/resistance
100>x>50 defense points than attack points = 30% reduction/resistance

And so forth.  That's a drastic jump, 25-50-100, and obvious need refining/retuning, but that's a MUCH better defensive system then what we have now.  The problem, again, doesn't lie within (X+Y) / Z, but just how the game functions in itself.

Well, the idea behind it is starting out with nothing and working for everything hence why I said it's a "Phobo-esque" server.  It'd be playable, simply by using your bare hands to fight roaches and zombies/mutants, whatever until level 7 or 9.

The idea of waiting another 12 levels for mining/blacksmith would be solved by tradesmen, which is what Jord was aiming for by incorporating them more into the community, because as is, fighters just get their own tradeskills and sort of eliminate the need for tradesmen.

I think somehow, if a middle could be found, it'd be great.  What that middle is, I don't know.

That's actually very close to what it is now Rok, atleast for the ore golems, no clue what diamond/ruby whatever are at.  Giant hessys are around 300 and go on down basically according to attk+def/4, but I think it's a coincidence.

I've offered to make quest(s) that required teamwork and storyline/plots for years, nobody ever wants it though and I get caught up in other stuff and forget about RPGWO for awhile.

I understand that and I'm right with Kaios that I'd love to play a server like that.

The problem being, it'd have to be a "Phobos-esque" server, a spin off of a main server, because Mickey's doing v2 oldschool, with a new interface/design.  He's not trying to change the gameplay or setup of the game in any way, which is why I said no way he'll do it.

And nobody will listen, let alone Mick doing a new server himself.

I actually don't like the inability to train a weapon from the start.  RPGWO was based on the idea you can be whatever you want to be, trader, mage, swordsman, crossbower and so forth.  Having to work like all hell to get that will only turn away 5 people and maybe get 1 dedicated player out of those 5.  At the rate we're getting new people, it'll only cause more people to leave in the long run.

Everything else is OK though.

I got on a few days ago to a near empty server and convinced osuki that it was the real me. Mystic Paladin?

He was some low level that was a trader for him. I /t him that I'll kill tigergibb and protect him cause he was being a douche and i'd give him money for the tokens. He gave me the tokens and I think I let him in the guild after that. He was all over looking at our guild which I think was the fort we had at like 5,3 with me and Ead.

Ah, glad you have a good memory.  All the alcohol hasn't gotten to ya yet huh?

Glad to see you're still around.  I think the last I heard of you, Pure Chaos told me you were involved in one of the hurricanes (Katrina? Rita?..don't remember) and your power was lost or something

I wouldn't have minded a pure-skill RPGWOv2 start, atleast to start.  I think a period of a week or so should be made with no magic, no potions, and no jewels for a week or so, make people actually play the game to get started, not just come in, boost themselves and make a full (or damn good) jewel set in a few hours of little to no effort and then start training on like wickens at level 1.

RPGWO's problem hasn't been the interface or design (while it's lacking, it's not a necessity if you've withstood it this long) it's the simple gameplay.  Right now, you can get to level 50 or so in a week if you really want (Drav, give me a time frame? I have no clue nowadays) and train on souls, the last level.

Give the players something to keep going for (and not necessarily an up on stats or more, higher level monsters) and you'll see the game flourish.  It's slower than a few years ago because people have mastered the game (while I don't like it, Drav is a damn good player with or without jewels and pots compared to the old vets) because the gameplay hasn't changed.

That's just my opinion Mick.  I wouldn't worry about interface and/or design, try improving gameplay first.

Oh, and on the topic of blue magic/golems, I think they shouldn't be allowed.  Tame is a skill for a reason.  Get rid of all the elemental golems to start, having golems over 600+ stats (giant hessy max) is just silly.  Having them in screamer/hydra/magi drakes after some training is more than enough, and even for PK kills.  You don't need over 600+ stats on golems, and if so, have a little work done by training them.

Oh that. I remember hearing the story. One of you had landrights but his tokens were protected by a fence, so you stole them and he was pissed

Yeah that

Tigergibb was my favorite.  Level 50 trader with 500 attack and 100 melee d.

I remember when me and Tilur broke into Tigergibb's house.  If I remember correctly, that's how Jord got his start in PYR8 cause he didn't wanna be killed so he helped us out.

My memory's bad though.

You might be thinking of Factions maybe?

Oh! Oh! I know, races on Phobos?

Races on Phobos happened once, for like a month, then all the admins got lazy.  We still need to have a server fully incorporate races.

Also, I want admin on Horizon2 Mickey

It would make sense, but perhaps a whole bunch of work for something that really isn't a necessity for a "simple" game like RPGWO right now.  There are auctions that are done by the popular servers already with admins serving as the auctoneers themselves, so the idea is great and all, but not a necessity IMO.
