Title: How many people still want to play V2?
Post by: Sacrifice on February 05, 2017, 11:36:25 am
If I were to spend hours making a server, with a new magic system, new quests, new map, etc. How many people would play it?

I have this idea for a all magic-ish based server, and it would take a while to make it.

I would like atleast 10-ish people to do it, that is why I made a poll vote system.

I wouldn't have any admins on this world other then myself, but I probably wouldn't use it unless we did events.

There would be no rules against  macroing or griefing or anything. Just try to be civil, but if you are a precious little snowflake and get your feelings hurt, too bad.

As long as you promise not to shut it down after 2 months, I'd play

It would be up as long as it has players. Rather that be one player or ten

actually after 2 months servers usually turn into all grind.  a wipe/restart keeps things fresh.

also what do you mean by "all magic-ish based server"?  a lot of what goes on in the magic system is hard-coded and hard to get around...but I'm interested and want to play rpgwo again!

I have a few things in the works and I will explain more as things I "want to work" become things that are working.

I would like to have atleast 10 people vote to make a new server though before I started any hard work on things.

good luck man!  I couldn't get about 1/3 of the magic stuff I wanted to work...but I was trying some stuff that was pretty far from what most servers usually do.

also I'm tempted to make a second forum account to give the tenth vote. :P

Still at 9, but I will explain some of the idea so people can yay or nay it.

So there will be 4 or 5 magic classes, your normal red blue white and black. as I said maybe a fifth one but not sure if I will need it yet.

Each magic class will have a specific crafting/attacking aspect. Instead of having so many different classes.

Red may have fire magic, buffs,  and jewelry making.

Blue mite be golem summoning, or water magic, or something like that. The also have to do with farming and alchemy. Armor crafting may also fall into this as well.

White magic would be lightning magic, healing, and probably like utility crafts? Such as your usual carpentry, masonry, mining etc. The stuff you need, but don't use as much. (witholding mining)

Black magic, would probably be some sort of death magic, as well as weapon crafting.

I know this is pretty vague of an explanation, but it is alot more thought out then I would care to explain currently.

A big change would be that most experience would come from fighting. There would be alot of balancing, but certain things like stamina to mana macroing to be level 50 in a day wouldn't be possible.

As well as that walking around and buffing yourself would also not give nearly as much as it normally would.

It would be like a 50(Fighting Monsters)/35(Crafting)/15(Standing around buffing yourself) exp change.

As I said, it is alot more thought out then I really want to write down. So I will just leave it at, if you have any questions about how things will work or how you think it isn't possible. Ask me and I will respond.

that should be completely possible, but not sure it would make for a server worth playing.  unless I'm misunderstanding, why add crafting to magic(which you seem to want as the only fighting skills), and which would craft runes(hardcoded into magic)?

whichever can make runes(black?) is going to be overpowered.
this would also kill game economy since the best fighter is guaranteed to be the best crafter because they only need 1 skill...and would be 100% self reliant.

I agree - seems flawed to move trade skills into magic to me. Good luck!

Well the magics would be based on different stats then normal, as well as that each magic would probably cost the maximum amount of skill points you would usually be able to get.

1/4 (or 1/5) the runes would be craftable by each magic class with a base set of runes being craftable by some other skill that would be trained by default and based off of every stat (like magic defense).

Yes the one who is the best fighter would be the best crafter for certain items but not all of them.

Runes would also be attainable through quests and random mob drops as well.

My only problem currently is the fact that I don't know if the game has enough players to work without self reliance...

Pssst.

People like Roarions servers why don't you ask Roarion for help instead of opening whatever this magic based bullwolf is?

Mr Fretwell please dont ruin what little is left of RPGWO.

Im not sure there is anything left of rpgwo

is it bad when you agree with a troll post?

@Sacrifice: there are those of us who play RPGWO strictly as crafters, this would kill it for us.  there are tons of games where we get to commit acts of genocide against monsters, but very few with crafting...and even less where crafting is actually important.  that is part of what makes RPGWO truly unique, and why I love it!

From what I remember there's a bunch of weird hardcoded wolf that breaks if the magics are't called a specific exact name, or doesn't show up on magic attack, or something

no?  as long as each skill/magic is in 'skills.ini', and each spell is assigned to the right skill in 'magic.ini' you can call them whatever you want.  maybe you miscoded a line...

If you change black magic to green magic by name, it wont show up as an attack.

Just make a nice classic server and let's play...

If you change black magic to green magic by name, it wont show up as an attack.
as long as you don't remove the line 'Purpose=Magic' from 'skill.ini' it will add to the character's magic attack(just like blue red and white magic always have), so as long as you change every line in 'magic.ini' from 'Black Magic' to 'Green Magic'(case sensitive to exactly how it is in 'skill.ini') it doesn't change anything.

on the other hand, changing a skill name and giving it no uses it won't show up in the skill selection area...

I just changed Black to Big(see attachment), it is in V1 because I'm too lazy to set up a V2 for such foolishness...

there may be other places you'll need to make the same changes(treasure.ini for some skills).

He means in the client. When you double click someone you'll just see something like MAGIC ATTACK = 0 in view.

So pretty much you can make it implicitly hidden whether it's trained or not, so non-B/B/R/W magics might need to have some constraints like not used for pvp or otherwise making so that knowing another's skill level is less of a deal

Perhaps adding some magic power to weapons so that you don't have to use a wand?

I imagine if you changed up what stats the skills used (such as black magic focusing on strength and dexterity, while white magic makes an intelligence and wisdom build, or something of that nature) you would still allow for the people that are just doing trade skills, broader character specialization to focus on what the player wants.

I would also like to see the world set up for more of a teamwork and community aspect as well.
-Quests that require more than one person (Say one that requires one of each type of mage to cast a spell specific to their school in order for the party to progress)
-No bulk production items until the players devote time/resources to its development (such as a research institute that, once a certain amount of raw materials are given to it, code for a new crafting method comes out.  Once 1K of each alchemy seed goes into the box, then code is added to use a bulk grinder.  This could then scale so that the next level requires more to increase the benefit, or add a new feature.  This would keep the world growing and give people more to work towards.)

I had a couple other ideas, but I forgot them while I was typing.

Opened the client to see Gallows server.   I was hella thrilled...... but admin only allowed to log in.    :(   Your work in progress?

Nope, not mine. I don't really want to make the same old basic rpgwo server, but no one seems to want to try anything new. So I basically stopped working on it.

Was considering making a plain rpgwo server just so people had something to play, but someone beat me to it.

Which all in all isn't bad for me, I would like to play as well.

World is already a flop / bad version of Hex from what I can tell looking in the files for a few minutes unless they attempted to fix the stuff Mysti put in. Only thing really new I saw is some dual sword images and they recolored some of the monster images. Could be good if it's a lot of quest content I guess.

⦁   Thanks to MYSTI for all the hard work she put in as this is a continuation of the CARNAGE files.

Glad Mysti still gets credit for doing very little - don't get me started on how big trees should turn into small ones lmao. Hopefully this time they don't have the secret hero traps again and give Mysti's favorite players free items/boosts/etc.

Looking back again to see if I missed anything the dual swords don't even have wear images, believe its because I put in the max amount of wear images already so they will probably be messed up.

Perhaps adding some magic power to weapons so that you don't have to use a wand?

1) Not possible.
2) Also not possible when so few people play the game.

we're ok with new, but your magic idea would be far too imbalanced.  crafting and fighting should(atleast in my opinion) always be separate skills.
