Rant: 1 Character Per Player

This is just my personal feelings about the issue, but when you allow players to make more than one character you loose the sense of community and team work.

On Fancy Lad, players are allowed to make two characters per account, letting them make a combat and a tradeskill one.  The tradeskill account supports the combat player meaning almost no trading happens on the server.  We loose the sense of community and instead there are just a few lone people playing by themselves.  World Online was designed to interact with players and helps to keep everyone interested.  I think this has contributed to why Fancy Lad doesn't have very many active players now.

What do you guys think?

you're a little off there, if you made more characters before he dropped the limit to 2 you can have more than 2 because they're not deleted...but yea 1 per person is best
why does Fox keep cancelling good shows?

I agree 1 per account but how does it get enforced?
People just got around the measures in place to enforce it.
Then you had a group of ppl who had multis and got the benefits of it.
And the rest were left with just 1 player which is why I set limit to 2.

So... again... how does it get technically enforced fairly?

Harder with the free model.
Maybe email verification.
Or some kind of client side check per wold based on some file/registry/computer setting.. to see if they had an account already on that world if so deny entry to world until approve by admin.

Even with a pay model, you can have multiple credit cards and whatnot.
Easy to make many different emails: hotmail, gmail, etc.
Client side checks I used was IP, NIC MAC, HD serial number and a file based one. But all of those hinder siblings and friends and lan parties, etc. and people who play honestly. And picture verification like I did a lot has work arounds too.

But for the honest player, yeah, probably should do just 1 player per client. I think the only way to really enforce it is manually patrolling how players play which takes too much time for me.

Yes 1 player per account really works. On Phobos I played 4 characters at the same time. Three macroing while I trained on my fighter.
Pretty easy to make a bot that autotrains attack all day too with SCAR, so I could really just macro all characters.

Mickey, despite what Jordonias said, most people really don't pull stuff like that. If there's a one character limit, they'll play with a friend or two rather than multi.

Seriously, it's not that big of a problem and a server lasts far longer with one character per account rather than two or more.

I'm not sure why Jordonias or any other weird, nerdy loser would play 4 characters at the same time but it doesn't happen often (if ever).
