Haven & Hearth
« on: March 10, 2011, 02:23:32 am »
Some of you may remember me posting awhile ago about a game called The Chipped Dagger. Well, that game went no where and is probably about to die, so now I bring you: Haven & Hearth!

Quote
Haven & Hearth is a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game) set in a fictional world loosely inspired by Slavic and Germanic myth and legend. The game sets itself apart from other games in the genre in its aim to provide players with an interactive, affectable and mutable game world, which can be permanently and fundamentally changed and affected through actions undertaken by the players. Our fundamental goal with Haven & Hearth is to create a game in which player choices have permanent and/or lasting effects and, thus, providing said players with a meaningful and fun gaming experience.

Players start the game surrounded by a vast and somewhat unforgiving wilderness, with only the most basic tools of survival at their disposal. The use of fire is a thematic focal point of the game's mythos, and an early and important task will be the simple lighting of one. As the first hearth fires disperse the darkness of the surrounding wilderness, more pressing questions will present themselves to the players: Who are they? Where are they? And, most importantly, where are they going? From this point on, players will have to blaze trails of their own into the unknown, the wilderness and the future, and explore and affect the world of Haven & Hearth using only their own best judgment and a chipped stone axe. Trust us, the stone axe is the wolf.

As players progress, they will be able to acquire new skills and abilities, allowing them to perform a variety of tasks—such as the claiming of land, the construction of buildings and the cultivation of crops—each step forward making the basic task of survival somewhat easier. Having progressed far enough, players will, in time, be able to organize themselves into societies, from simple tribes and villages, progressing through republics, nation states and, ultimately, empires.

At least, those are our lofty ambitions.

There's about 500-1000 players online daily. I've played this game since around July of last year and have thoroughly enjoyed it since then. There was a world wipe at the beginning of the year so the new world (4th World since the game started) has been up since January 11th.

The game however is not for the faint hearted as it utilizes a permanent death system and at some points can become very "grindy." Although you can play it with a busy schedule, I wouldn't recommend going in to it with the hope that you will do well if that is the case. The game takes a lot of time and dedication to build up your character and items, which can also very easily be lost if you don't take the proper precautions. That being said, it's a great game and I have lots of fun playing it. If you can get in to it and maybe find a few people to play with I think anyone who tries it out will really enjoy it. It's also probably a good idea to read through any stickied topics at the forum and take a look at the wiki.

I love v3 being able to reach so many people at one time. Art could be better but if the game takes off then we can hire a real artist to make it look similar or better than above.

you need metal for that, and I can't find an unclaimed cave, and can't make the hardened leather stuff needed to make a mine hole

hardened leather is just wax on leather, and boiling iirc, brick walls are fun, but mining all that clay. mines are easy to find, just sneak in and explore until you find an unclaimed part. hell, for defense scout out a thicket and make it yours.

Bumping this in case anyone was interested to know that due to some hosting issues the world wiped so World 6 is open now if you were waiting for an even playing field to try the game out.

No new updates however, just a wipe.
